Colosseum tickets sold out? The official site ticketing.colosseo.it is sold out in high season. From April to October tickets vanish in minutes. It’s normal. I live in Rome, here’s how to get in without scams.. This guide to Colosseum tickets is updated regularly based on the latest availability checks and official rules.
Official prices from Parco Archeologico del Colosseo:
- 24h Standard Ticket (Colosseum + Roman Forum + Palatine): €18 + €2 fee = €20 total. EU 18-25: €2 + €2 fee = €4 total
- Full Experience Arena or Underground: €24
- Kids 0-17: Free but €2 booking fee required
How tickets are really released: Standard and Full Experience Underground + Arena tickets open exactly 30 days before. The specific variant Full Experience Arena ONLY (arena platform without underground) and Night Tours open only 7 days before. Tickets are not released all at once at 9:00 AM – they are released on a rolling basis during the day, often matching the exact entry time slot you want (for example, an 11:30 AM slot goes online at 11:30 AM Rome time, 30 days before).
Pro tip: Since named tickets for the most popular slots (like Underground) vanish in minutes, have your account already created on ticketing.colosseo.it and be ready with the page open, synced to Rome time.
Which Colosseum Ticket Should You Buy in 2026?
- Standard 24h (€18) – Good if you have 1 hour. Access to 1st and 2nd level of Colosseum, plus Forum and Palatine. You can stay max 75 minutes. Easiest to find.
- With Arena (€24) – The one I recommend for 90% of visitors. You walk on the Arena where gladiators fought. Best photos, fewer people. Best value.
- Full Experience with Underground + Arena (€24) – Book 1 month ahead. Underground tunnels + Arena + Forum. Only 20 spots per slot, sells out in minutes.

All standard tickets include one entry to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, which can be used within 24 hours before or after your booked Colosseum time.
How to Buy Colosseum Tickets When Official Site is Sold Out
Official site is the cheapest, but no cancellation and tickets are non-refundable. When official is sold out, I check authorized resellers – they have separate allotments:

How to really skip the line in 2026
The line is for security checks. Tips:
- Book the first slot at 8:30 AM for the shortest lines. An afternoon slot around 2:00 PM also works well, but avoid booking too late: the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill last entry is often 1 hour before sunset, so a 3:30 PM ticket in winter gives you almost no time inside.
- To really skip the line, don’t use the Colosseum main entrance first. Use the same ticket at the Roman Forum entrance in Largo della Salara Vecchia (off Via dei Fori Imperiali) or at the Palatine Hill entrance in Via di San Gregorio. The queue there is usually half. Note: the gate near Via Petroselli / Mamertine Prison is exit-only, you cannot enter from there.
- No large bags: max 30x40x15cm. No luggage storage inside.
- Arrive 15 minutes before your slot in 2026, late entry is not allowed and security is strict.
Can I bring backpack, water, stroller?
Small backpack: Yes
Empty water bottle: Yes – there are drinking fountains inside
Stroller: Yes for Forum/Palatine, you must leave it at Colosseum (free cloakroom)
My local tip to save money
In Rome, a cappuccino at the bar counter costs between €1.30 and €1.50 on average, but if you sit down with a view of the Colosseum it costs €5. Walk 5 minutes into the Monti district (Via dei Serpenti / Via Panispera) and you pay the local price. Bring your empty bottle, the water in Rome is free, fill up at a “nasone” (public drinking fountain).
My recommendation for 2026
My recommendation for 2026 is simple: if you find official tickets for €20, take them immediately.
But when the official site is sold out — and it happens daily — 90% of my readers book one of the priority tickets above.
I personally book GetYourGuide for free cancellation. Viator is great for first-timers (assistance at meeting point). Tiqets is perfect for last-minute instant tickets.
All three are official priority tickets, not guided tours. You enter exactly like with the Parco Archeologico ticket.
Colosseum tickets sold out? Free Entry Rules 2026: EU Under 18 and First Sunday
First Sunday free tickets must be reserved only on the official Parco Archeologico website, but expect 3+ hours queue with no priority entry. For free entry, EU under 18 needs valid ID, non-EU under 18 needs passport. EU citizens 18-25 pay just a €2 booking fee. Remember official tickets cannot be changed or refunded. Third-party platforms give you free cancellation up to 24 hours, which is why most travelers choose them when the official calendar is full. Allow 3 hours for the full visit.
Bottom line: colosseum tickets sold out does not mean you cannot visit, you just need to know where locals book.
